Graphs and charts

Graphs and charts should always have a title, legend, axis labels and data labels. These enable all users to understand the information being presented. Also, when a user does access the floating layer, some screen readers will read out this information, which helps a user to understand it.

Do not use colour, even with a key, as the only way of communicating information. Remember, not everyone can see colour and even when the contrast is sufficient, it can be difficult to tell some colours apart, especially for people who are colour blind.

The following video shows you how to create and format accessible graphs and charts.
